Communique Issued at the end of the 83rd Meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Today, Wednesday, December 17th 2025, Presented by the Chairman of the BoT, Senator Adolphus Wabara.
The Board of Trustees at its 83rd meeting reviewed and assessed the State of affairs of the Nation and the Party and resolved as follows:
1. The BoT congratulates and commends all Organs, leaders, critical stakeholders; the National Executive Committee, the PDP Governors’ Forum, National Assembly Caucus, State Chapters and indeed teeming loyal members of PDP across the country for the successful conduct of the 2025 Elective National Convention held on the 15th and 16th of November 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.
2. The 2025 Elective Convention was duly and appropriately convened and conducted in strict compliance with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP, the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) in clear demonstration of our party’s enduring commitment to internal democracy, transparency and Constitutional Order.
3. The BoT stands with and continues to uphold all the decisions reached at the 2025 National Convention, particularly the election and inauguration of the new National Working Committee under the Chairmanship of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The BoT congratulates and assures full support to the leadership of newly-elected National Working Committee and commend the NWC’s firm steps, commitment and focus towards uniting, rebuilding, repositioning and strengthening our Party for the task ahead.
4. The BoT calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to without further delay, update its website to reflect the change of leadership in our Party arising from the outcome of the National Convention and the effluxion of the tenure of the immediate past National Working Committee.
5. The BoT therefore calls all members of the PDP at all levels to embrace unity, sheathe their swords, fully return to the fold so as present a formidable front to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
6. The Board urges Nigerians and all party members not to be discouraged by the on-going litigations involving our Party in various courts. The BoT assures that all necessary steps are being taken in that direction and the PDP will emerge victorious, stronger and more united.
The Board also urged party members not to be fazed by the defections by feeble-minded individuals. The strength of the PDP does not lie in fleeting political movements but in its deep-rooted connection with the Nigerian people which is our assurance of victory in 2027.
7. The Board assured all members and Nigerians that the Party will soon hold a special Party Conference where serious national issues will be discussed and PDP’s roadmap for restoring good governance laid out.
8. The Board reviewed the continued participation of some of its members in illegal meetings which undermine the unity, stability and integrity of the PDP and passed a resolution suspending them from all activities of the Board of Trustees.

They were referred to the National Working Committee for further disciplinary action.
On the State of Affairs of the Nation;
9. The BoT condemned the ongoing undermining of democracy and assault on the opposition by the APC Government using state apparatus of power and some compromised Judicial officers. The assault on, sealing of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja and constant harassment of staff are clear evidence of attempts by the APC Government to decimate opposition in Nigeria.
The BoT demands the immediate reopening of the PDP Secretariat and urges the International Community to note the ugly situation and consider diplomatic sanction on all persons and officials involved in the undermining of democracy in Nigeria.
10. The BoT expressed serious concerns over the recent judgment of the Supreme Court on the suspension of democratically-elected officials and institutions of government by the President. The pronouncement under a government such as the President Tinubu-led APC’s promotes totalitarianism over democracy. The BoT urges the Supreme Court to review its position in the interest of the democracy and stability of the nation.
11. The BoT also expressed concerns over the decision by the APC-Federal Government to introduce an insensitive and overburdening tax regime on Nigerians from January 2026. The proposed tax regime will worsen the economic hardship in Nigeria and it will trigger increase the cost of good and service, job losses and crippling of our productive and service sectors.
The Board urges the Federal Government to in the interest of the wellbeing of Nigerians, review the policy by providing necessary cushioning incentives and infrastructure before introducing such tax policies.
12. The BoT also condemns that insensitivity of the APC administration towards the escalated terrorism attacks and killings in Nigeria. The BoT calls on President Tinubu to stop his insensitivity over the situation and take urgent steps the ensure adequate security in the country.
13. The BoT however urges Nigerians not to despair but keep hope alive and continue to rally with the PDP as our Party repositions to take back power in 2027 and return our dear nation on the path of stability and economic prosperity.
